MIT 3D Printing Breakthrough

Researchers at MIT have created a 3D printer that can figure out on its own how to print with new unknown materials.

The printer evaluates properties of materials in real-time and then adapts its printer strategy accordingly, MIT News reports. The breakthrough could enhance the use of sustainable and recycled materials in additive manufacturing.

Though sustainable materials are emerging in 3D printing, using them requires manual adjustments.

The collaborative team included participants from MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Center for Scientific Research in Greece.
