Valkyrie

NASA’s Valkyrie, also known as R5, is a 188 cm (6 feet 2 inches) tall, 125 kg (275 lbs) humanoid robot developed for space exploration and disaster response. Built after the 2011 DARPA Robotics Challenge, Valkyrie features 44 degrees of freedom, torque-controlled actuators, and modular limbs that can be swapped for repairs. Designed to operate in environments too dangerous for humans, it can navigate rough terrain, manipulate tools, and interact with objects autonomously. NASA continues to use Valkyrie for research in human-robot collaboration and planetary mission preparation, including potential Mars surface operations.
