China’s Humanoid Robots: From Mockery to Technological Triumph
China’s ambitions in humanoid robotics can be traced back to the 863 Program launched in 1986 to advance the country in high-tech fields.
The BHR-3 is a humanoid robot developed by the Beijing Institute of Technology as the third generation of the BHR series, introduced around 2005. Standing approximately 165 cm (5 feet 5 inches) tall, it featured improved motion stability, faster walking speed, and enhanced joint flexibility compared to its predecessors. The robot incorporated more advanced sensors, control algorithms, and real-time computing, allowing for smoother, humanlike movement and greater environmental awareness.
