Humanoid Robots Enter German’s Industrial Workforce Sooner Than Expected
Deutschland’s manufacturing leaders are accelerating into humanoids far sooner than conventional wisdom predicted.
AEON is a humanoid robot developed by Hexagon AB, a Swedish technology company, and launched in June 2025 for industrial applications. Standing about 165 centimeters (5 feet 5 inches) tall and weighing around 60 kilograms (132 pounds), AEON is designed for tasks in manufacturing, logistics, and aerospace that require precision and adaptability. It combines advanced locomotion, multimodal sensor fusion, and AI-driven spatial intelligence to navigate environments, inspect parts, and perform digital twin capture. Built in collaboration with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Maxon, AEON features a battery-swap system for continuous operation and is being piloted by companies such as Schaeffler and Pilatus Aircraft to address labor shortages and enhance automation in real industrial settings.
