India’s Humanoid Robots: From Scrap to Space
In a relatively short time, the world’s most populous country has gone from being nearly irrelevant in the robotics arena to a significant player on the global stage.
AcYut is a series of humanoid robots developed by students at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani in India. First introduced in 2008, the AcYut project aimed to advance research in bipedal locomotion, vision processing, and human-robot interaction. Across six major revisions, the robots became increasingly sophisticated, featuring improved balance, motion control, and autonomy. AcYut has represented India in international robotics competitions.
