Nvidia Backs Taiwan-based MetAI Tech That Transforms 2D Layouts to Digital Twins

Nvidia-backed startup MetAI says its technology can transform complex 2D layouts into digital twin environments in just minutes.

The Taiwanese startup just secured $4 million seed funding from Nvidia. MetAI’s platform integrates with the GPU maker’s Omniverse and Isaac Sim to create precise, 3D virtual environments. AI-powered procedural generative models power the conversions.

MetAI says the technology reduces planning time dramatically, converting a 2D layout in just 4 minutes rather than the 300+ hours it’d normally take. Companies use the 3D digital twin environments to simulate and optimize warehouse operations.

To create a simulation-ready environment, users upload a 2D warehouse blueprint. The tool’s AI then reads and interprets layout symbols, identifying equipment and pathways.

The system automatically retrieves SimReady 3D assets from its extensive database and places them precisely in the corresponding positions.

The AI maps the path of conveyor belts, generating them with realistic properties using mask images and user-defined settings. It also generates logistics racks and places them accurately based on user inputs.

MetAI says the platform integrates with systems industrial automation systems like:

  • Kench: Smart logistics for material handling and automation
  • Solomon: 3D machine vision technology enabling robots to accurately pick and place items
  • Cartonic: Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for automated material transfer
